2020 Community Events Wrap-Up

Our Community Events Team would like to give a huge shout out and THANK YOU to all of the people who contributed to our numerous charitable initiatives this fall and winter. With your help and support, we surpassed every one of our goals and were able to give back to our wonderful community in so many ways.

We are so proud of our Holiday Card drive! Our crafty kiddos helped create 290 handmade holiday cards; 100 were mailed to our military troops overseas and 190 were dropped off at 3 nursing homes in Colleyville, Grapevine, and Bedford. Perhaps no one has felt the devastation of COVID more than our senior citizens- when we dropped off the cards and saw how family members had to stand outside in the cold just to see their loved ones through the doors and windows, it tugged our heart strings. The staff and residents were so grateful to get some holiday cheer.

Our partnership with One Warm Coat was an enormous success as well! With our community’s donations, we were able to collect 157 coats, which will keep 157 men, women and children warm this winter. When we dropped off the coats on Giving Tuesday at the donation drop off, the woman in charge was in shock at the sight of our donation, as their need for coats has more than doubled this year! *Although our official coat drive is over, you can always bring gently used (and washed) coats to Grapevine Church of Christ.

We teamed up with Kendra Scott for a Kendra Gives back campaign, and we were able to raise money to donate to Genesis Women’s Shelter. Genesis Women’s Shelter provides safety, shelter and support for women who have experienced domestic violence, and to raise awareness so we can eventually eradicate domestic violence. We plan to do more campaigns benefiting Genesis Women’s Shelter in the future as well.

Last but not least, we collected over 110 toys to donate to Christmas is for Children- a local nonprofit based in Southlake that is dedicated to providing unprivileged children a truly magical Christmas. We can only imagine the joy on their faces when they woke up Christmas morning to brand new toys on their wish lists.

In the midst of a global pandemic WITH its devastating economic effects and logistical nightmares AND during a crazy fall and holiday season, we were still able to band together and give back to those in our community who are really struggling. On behalf of the entire Community Events Team, I want to express my most sincere gratitude to all of you. Thank you for giving your time, your talents, your money, and more to those less fortunate. We are astounded at the generosity of our members.

Please stay tuned for a lot more Service Projects coming soon!
